One blogger’s personal bridge to nowhere

I’ll meet you at the internet

Matt Yglesias breaks some disappointing (hometown) news: outoftownnews

[T]he confidence in the economy of America’s elite is sure to be shattered by the news that Out of Town News, the newstand smack in the middle of Harvard Square, is shutting down.  The internet had basically made its core business model obsolete some time ago.

Perhaps the internet does provide a better way of getting one’s “out of town news,” but to me, there’s still a point in having a whole bunch of foreign publications — yes, in their nice actual paper format — together in one place (and “one place” considerably less amorphous and huge as “the internet”).  More significantly for me, though, the internet will not nearly do as good of a job in providing an easy location to meet friends outside the Harvard metro T stop (shame on me).
