Boondoggle

One blogger’s personal bridge to nowhere

Another lingering effect of civil war

In Liberia, unscrupulous entrepreneurs have twisted adoption into bald exploitation.  Says the country’s minister for gender, on the lucrative trade in “orphans”:

“People are getting scores of money out of this and they want to make sure that they stay in business,” she says.

“If you have Liberian children being marketed like this it’s a shame. It is a shame.”

This is worse than a shame.  Little could be considered more unconscionable.
