Nameless opposition

Some former members of South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC) party are sure about one thing: they no longer want to be part of the ANC.  What they are not yet sure about is what to call themselves.

The ANC said it was taking legal advice as the proposed name, Congress of the People, refers to an event when the Freedom Charter was signed in 1955.

The charter is considered the cornerstone to the way the ANC governs.

The ruling party had already challenged the splinter group’s first choice name and its second was already taken.

The South African National Congress South African Democratic Congress Congress of the People ???? plans to contend with the once indomitable ANC in next year’s elections…as soon as it figures out what acronym to put on the ballot.
