Boondoggle

One blogger’s personal bridge to nowhere

What about the old people?

For all the talk about whether or not Obama can win over sufficient numbers of the “white working class” population, I have not seen very much attention paid to what remains the largest voting bloc in the United States — old people.  Even if Obama does the un-Deanable and gets young voters to actually turn out, thereby expanding the electorate — 60% is an optimistic figure — in his favor, he will still need significant support from the card-carrying AARPers who, frustratingly, still exert a disproporionate influence on elections and politics.
