Boondoggle

One blogger’s personal bridge to nowhere

Lies about taxes

Taxes aren’t popular.  Claiming that a candidate wants to “raise taxes” has therefore long been a tactic to demonize one’s opponent.  What John McCain’s team has discovered is that this allegation by no means needs to be true.  He has brazenly brushed aside any of Senator Obama’s explanations of his tax plans to simply pound the message that “Barack Obama will raise taxes.”

I don’t understand tax policy very well.  But it seems very simple.  McCain will at the least leave Bush’s tax cuts on the wealthy intact and has also floated the proposal to deepen these cuts on the upper income bracket.  Obama will eliminate these tax cuts and provide relief to those making less than $250,000.  He has explained that many times, clearly, and I trust that more than McCain’s arrogant reliance on a “trust me” strategy.

Worse, McCain just had the gall to compare Obama to Herbert Hoover.
