One blogger’s personal bridge to nowhere

Little Darfurian Moreno Ocampos

After her latest visit to refugee camps in Chad, Darfur activist and blogger extraordinaire Mia Farrow reports that some parents are naming their children after the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, in appreciation of his work to bring Omar al-Bashir, the man at the top of the chain of commands that caused their displacement, to justice.

“Babies are being born, babies are being named Moreno Ocampo,” she told the news conference.

This is a much more welcome — and less paternalistically (or maternalistically, I suppose) problematic — naming development than Mia taking it upon herself to bestow names (such as, I kid not, “Hope”) upon the poor orphaned children she meets.
