Can we stay on planet Earth, please?
Speaking of Teddy’s speech last night, I liked it, but I think the to-the-moon analogy is a little bit overused, and possibly off-the-mark.
We are told that Barack Obama believes too much in an America of high principle and bold endeavor, but when John Kennedy called of going to the moon, he didn’t say it’s too far to get there. We shouldn’t even try.
Our people answered his call and rose to the challenge, and today an American flag still marks the surface of the moon.
I understand the moon mission was a “bold endeavor,” and that JFK was Teddy’s brother, but didn’t Jack have plenty of other audacious — and more substantive, from a policy standpoint — initiatives? And how exactly is going to the moon a mission of “high principle?” I thought we just wanted to beat the Soviets there.
Apparently, you should ask not what you can do for your country, but how you can help your country stick its flag way, way, way up there in a rock orbiting our planet.
